Of course, the Estate could have sold the shares, received the 50% CGT discount and distributed the proceeds to purchase shares or whatever. Not saying that should have happened and beneficiaries may have preferred to receive the shares, just pointing out that the calculation with 100% CGT payable is not totally necessary. I agree that everyone has different circumstances and the strident calls telling holders what they should or shouldn't do has limited perspective......
