People were buying CBA for the exact same reasons they put their money into buying property. The exact same reasons. They feel it's safer, it produces some return regularly but they also expect the general market to continue to rise with the tide.
Where it gets interesting is if people are taking out loans to buy said shares for interest rates above the dividend rate relying on the cap gain to cover that.
Negatively gearing CBA shares.
