Many projects would cost 20%-50% if they "played it right" with current technology but people do weird stuff all the time.
One bank decided to build a "separate" international payments gateway outside of SWIFT and AUSTRAC monitoring and it managed to get through from proposal to funding to delivery to commissioning to revenue generation and no one in management or risk was sufficiently alarmed to put a stop to it.
As far as I'm concerned that's similar to a bunch of engineers designing a road and railroad crossing without any gates.
But yeah, AI will solve all these problems and more. Yeah? Nah. (imho)
