Ha ha, not interested in getting into a "Left" v "Right" tit for tat but the above is reflective of our current state of politics where it is more important to come up with an excuse than make a decision..
Despite all the rhetoric about paying peanuts to monkeys and having to lift wages to apparently attract better quality politicians it seems no one is prepared to be accountable and make decisions for the greater good. (Surely decision making and accountability should dictate wage levels and clearly the lack of action suggests our politicians should be on minimum wage.)
Governments (& supporters) these days just like to play the blame game of any previous administration (or anyone with some link) with little recognition of differing circumstances or any desire to make change. We saw it in Qld where the labor government continually blamed everything on previous premier Newman for 9 long years with no responsibility or desire in making decisions in the here and now.
I am no fan of the previous LNP government but I would have thought it pretty clear that post Covid an increase to immigration was required. Doesn't mean it has to be a long term measure and circumstances should have dictated a reduction fairly quickly. (interestingly the current government have been saying for some time they have reduced numbers when the stats say they haven't!?? Clearly they know they can without the circus of changing legislation.)
As for putting it all on overseas students, that is a whole other argument and is known as wedge politics which both sides are playing to the hilt....................
But of course criticize the actions of any side of Government and their supporters rush to man the barricades!
