This was true pre covid where CBA was trading at a much more modest PE ratio. Infact everything you said has been true for over a decade. Why all of a sudden has this manic behavior developed for CBA?
And if indeed CBA is this amazing money spinner, why can't it boost earnings? The net cash profit increase was 2%.
Our banks will have premiums over American banks for two reasons. Franking credits giving a kick the dividend, and lack of mega cap alternatives to banks. If we had companies like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, there would be a capital flight from banks to these companies. The banks are beneficiaries from the fact we are not an innovative country. You can't sink billions into Wisetech Global or Xero at 150 times earnings - its way to risky, so the bank shares get pumped instead.
Its not a great bank, its just this country has nothing else to invest in.
