The CBA and Bank bears got titillated with the sub par WBC results 5th May. I bet you they thought the bad result would apply to all the banks...

CBA, ANZ's, NAB and MQG experienced heavy selling on the WBC results 05/05/2025.

ANZ results (7th May) was okay but that one continued to be sold off...
NAB also had their quarterly 7th and was actually pretty good. Selling stopped but pretty much sideways.
MQG had the best upside after results. Even though it was sub par on most analyst expectations. Obviously not as bad as what the market expected.

Finally, CBA brings up the rear when it comes to updates this time of the year (Hey that rhymes). No denying the economic headwinds yet CBA posting 6% NPAT is a good result. Compare that to peers. It is a really good result.

If I had to pick on something then the Loan impairment expense of $223 million is an eyesore but nothing unexpected there to those that bothered to read the 1H

Someone on the other thread said these results are nothing to be excited about. I actually would agree for the majority of the market. But not for those like me who like well run boring investments.

In a world chasing headlines and hype, it’s easy to forget that consistency counts. Well-run, boring businesses offer steady returns, strong margins, and the kind of resilience that doesn’t require perfect timing.
