I used to run a model (after the 2009 CCP crisis and that was my safety in regard to CCP valuations) it took their pdl carrying value in the books as a percentage of the PDL's that they had a payment plan over- from memory they would put into the notes that they had payment plans over $XXX. Over the years the "cover" that CCP had got better. I stopped doing that a few years ago as it was a function of trusting management which I now did.

I have never looked at PNC as to my mind there were far too many issues in regard to how they reported profits in this sector. Personally, I got the impression that if they didn't purchase PDLs in the short term their profits would go up - that if the bought a heap very late in the year it would reduce current profits.

I decided to only have one concentrated investment and I felt that CCP was the best.

Reality suggests that if PNC is having to justify their methods with opinions and CCP and CLH is not then PNC seems to be the odd one out.

Personally, this is one where you are in the hands of management in my opinion so choose wisely or don't invest in this area.
