It isn't just all the other coal drying technologies that Coldry is competing with for funding and recognition.

For years the Australian Government has spent millions of dollars developing this carbon capture approach to reducing carbon emissions. Their claim that such emissions can be easily reduced by 80% is staggering compared to esi's claim that a... "10-30% Coldry:Lignite mix can be used in existing lignite-fired plants for emissions reduction of 5%-15%"
    http://www.ectltd.com.au/coldry/coldry-overview/

It makes me wonder why power companies would go to the trouble and great expense of employing the Coldry tech to then mix the BCE pellets with 70-90% lignite and this only then reduces the emissions by as much as 15%???

The esi site does also suggest that...
"100% Coldry possible in significantly upgraded lignite plants"
... but it doesn't give a % amount of carbon emission reduction nor does it define "significantly upgraded" of go into detail of costs involved. Not even sure why the word 'signigicantly' needed to be used.

This CSIRO is a great resource of info for anyone interested or invested in the coal industry.

    http://www.csiro.au/Outcomes/Energy/Energy-from-coal/Carbon-Capture-Storage.aspx

"Carbon capture and storage technologies have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power stations by more than 80 per cent."

"CSIRO is working to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of carbon capture and storage (CCS) so it is a viable option for Australia's energy future.

Research is focused on deploying large-scale demonstration projects that enable substantial reductions in emissions and provide a pathway for industry to adopt the technologies at full scale.

CSIRO has broad capabilities in the science that underpins CCS technology and a strong track record of working with government, industry and research organisations on demonstration projects.

This work is part of CSIRO's coal technology research, which is focused on the development of technologies to improve the safety and efficiency of underground coal mining, and accelerate the deployment of low emission coal-based power technologies."

Certainly now with the Carbon Tax in full swing companies will be looking for the most efficient way of reducing carbon emissions and there seems to be so many options. I wonder if the Chinese have heard about this carbon capture caper?

Have a great week all and good luck on the Monash money.
