IDEX 2023: Codan and DTC unveil new soldier radio

Codan and Domo Tactical Communications (DTC) have unveiled a new solider radio at IDEX 2023 in Abu Dhabi, held from 20 to 24 February.
Known as ‘Sentry Mesh 6161-L', the software-defined radio (SDR) is the latest in the Sentry Series product family, offering high throughput in a small form factor, Sam Medler, sales account manager for DTC told Janes.

Intended for soldiers and special forces, the system operates in the L-band (1.2–1.7 GHz) frequency range and provides data, voice, and video communication as well as positional information. Other bands are available, including S-band, he added.
Weighing 430 g, the system can offer up to 44 Mbps of throughput, has an 18 hour battery life with a UBBL35 conformal battery, and can enable up to 32 ‘talkgroups' or channels simultaneously.

The system is based on DTC's MeshUltra-X solider waveform and can be integrated with navigational software such as Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK), he said.
According to Medler, the company has been contracted to deliver several hundred units to Australia in June or July 2023. Demonstrations with specific military customers are also planned for April or May, he added.
In addition, the company is targeting UK Ministry of Defence projects, such as the Dismounted Situational Awareness (DSA) and Morpheus programmes. Greece has expressed an interest in the system.
