It's not Peter Cook announcing his resignation, but Tamiflu resistant seasonal flu has forced the CDC to recommend Relenza.
"if a patient tests positive for influenza A, use of zanamivir should be considered if treatment is indicated."
Source:http://www.cdc.gov/flu/professionals/antivirals/recommendations.htm
There's little data on Relenza usage, and GSK's "best efforts" research, development, and marketing ended in the 80's so it can't be used on the very young and it can't be used to treat systemic infection by injection. And of course GSK insisted Relenza should carry all the usage warnings that really only apply to Tamiflu.
(cathartic rant)
The Biota board settled for $20m because they, themselves, are incapable of "best effort". They are only familiar with higher salaries, free options, and feeding the shareholders bull.
They shat themselves when it was finally explained to them that they were risking their Biota nurtured lifestyle with the lawsuit; and yet, they have no problem running a company that has taken its breakthrough discovery (zanamivir) almost to the end of it's usefulness(to shareholders)and given NOTHING back to it's investors in 30 years.
(/cathartic rant)
I doubt the CDC recommendation will effect the market sentiment; it would take a mass board resignation following a persuasive visit from the Ghosts of Christmas.
