The flu Vaccine is not as effective as in previous years due to a mutation. It is too late in the season for a new vaccine to be created.
There is a shortage of Tamiflu in the USA and doctors are being advised to save it for kids and give Relenza to adults.
Coincidently (if you believe that) GSK have been pushing for a patent extension for Relenza and had received an extra year whilst this is decided by authorities in the US. Hopefully for investors this covers any period where Government stockpiles are restocked.
IMO I think that Cochrane should be held accountable for what they published about Relenza in April 2014. There may be those who believe there is no point prescribing Relenza based on Cochrane's report. and this may result in deaths that may have been treatable. I am not a doctor but is seems true that 2-3 days after dosing there may be no significant benefit compared to a placebo, but Relenza (and Lani) saves lives for those who do not get better after the typical 2-3 day period.
5 people are already dead in North Carolina, hence the call for doctors to prescribe Relenza.
I think those families of the deceased would rather the Government ensured stockpiles are maintained and physicians are educated about Relenza than worry about 'money down the drain'

Australian scientists are not cowboys, they got Relenza right 20 years ago and it still works.
