That's funny - CDMA was supposed to have 'Boomer' cells developed by Nortel to provide a 200km cell radius. Fat lot of good that did.
In a previous life I used to sell equipment to Telstra to try and make CDMA sound better (fat chance on an 8K EVRC codec). Next G also uses adaptive multirate codecs (i.e. low bit rate), so in terms of voice quality I'm afraid the best you were ever going to get was full rate GSM. Its all downhill from there !
Low bit rate = more cell capacity = lower cost for operators. Never mind that the voice quality sounds like cr.....
