The Sirtex trials ran into problems not because the treatment didn't work, but because only some patients had a good response to radiation and others responded better to chemotherapy, and at the time the trial was designed they had no idea that a difference existed. Sub group analysis after the trial was completed helped identify those who might benefit, but it took five years and millions of dollars to find out. Worse, many patients who had probably been converted from unresectable to resectable were never re-evaluated for surgery because of a lack of oversight and an attitude that once unresectable means unresectable forever.
So yes, it might work well on some patients, but whether this study proves it and identifies those who will benefit is likely open to debate.
