Breakthrough cases are common in healthcare workers because we are exposed to a much higher initial viral load than other people.

Me intubating a positive patient is giving me a much higher viral exposure than someone touching a pear in a super market someone sneezed on.

That means, despite being vaccinated, I'm much more likely to get unwell than someone vaccinated in the community.

Also, I'm much more likely to get a breakthrough case and spread it to my immunosuppressed buddy (who is vaccinated). I'm more likely to spread it to my girlfriends parents (who are vaccinated but older). Both groups likely aren't fully covered by vaccines.

It's also not just about me. It sucks seeing young people this unwell because of ignorance. And it's a huge drain on the healthcare system.
