The current market cap is just under US$600m …and I believe Mesoblast has the most efficacious therapies for ischemic stroke, MI and HFrEF, CLBP, srAGVHD and probably ARDS…with no side effects..for starters. I am also expecting great things from our clinical trials for Crohn’s Colitis at the Cleveland Clinic. If Amy Lightner is also using bone marrow MSCs in Investigator led trials for peri anal fistula, it can only be ethical to do so if we show improved performance and durability over Alofisel .
Sounds like the makings post approvals of a US $50-100bn Company over the next 5 years…..but it is very binary outcome heavily reliant on FDA authorisation.
By the way, I am not sure if anyone realised that medical authorities in Japan have set pricing for Alofisel last November . The treatment price at current exchange rates is approx USD $49,000 so expect to see single digit royalties being paid to Mesoblast (quarterly in arrears (sic)). In Japan the incidence of peri anal fistula is reported to be 16.88 per 100,000.
Takeda, are scheduled to complete their US phase 3 trial for Alofisel in August of this year having already successful completed phase 3 trials elsewhere…they received regulatory approval in Europe in 2018 and in Japan late last year. It would be interesting if a significant chunk of our market cap could be justified by royalties coming just from Takeda and JCR alone. Royalties , to date have been very poor, held back by doubts regarding long term durability of effect…but i think those concerns may be unmerited judging by the latest research. The problem for Takeda is despite achieving remission? on average in about 6.7 weeks for over 50% of the patients…I suspect their cell potency might struggle to match Mesoblasts but let’s wait for Amy Lightner to report her clinical trial data. Her opinion will be very interesting as she is known for her work as a consultant to Takeda . OP
