Maybe give a conditional approval if such a thing exists then go on and complete the trial. This is the best of both worlds. Immediate death spiral can be reduced dramatically while the full course of the trial dots all the i's and crosses the ts. I would be very happy to see that. The patients would be winning - otherwise a great chance of dying - and proper protocol is also followed. I am no medico, just a bloody practical person who can assess and take risks based on the assessment and live with the consequences. In my work I have to do it from time to time and it never let me down.
