Yes @bridog, the statement you quote does throw doubt on the 4 open label stem cell patients with 3 of 4 recovered being treated with MSB's cells. Although the Prof. interviewed repeated "mesenchymal stem cells" and as such these could be MSB's, but if he was using induced pluripotent stem cells they certainly weren't MSB's.
Despite this ambiguity, the press release quoted by @vorzaw clearly states that the Uni of Maryland and its associated hospitals is taking part in the 300 subject RCT using MSB's stem cells, confirmed by the clinical trials website.
The bottom line is that the UM Prof is convinced of the potential for MSCs in treating ARDS and the Uni of Maryland hospitals are recruiting for MSB's trial. iPSCs could also be beneficial but MSB's trial is way ahead of the pack.
