SI's summary of the Covid ARDS trial seems to confirm what I surmised - that instead of fewer people dying in the latter stages of the trial as many have claimed, pretty much everyone died.
This is because the requirement for inclusion of a patient into the trial was that they were on ventilation, and SoC changed after July 2020 so that ventilation was avoided (slowing trial enrolment) or severely delayed (leading to very ill patients that were near death). This matches all the available data we have and provides a reason why enrolment slowed down.
