I don't expect news outlets to be hyping Mesoblast, but I am surprised when stem cell therapy is not even considered as one of the potential ways to treat COVID-19.
Latest ABC News article titled 'Could we Cure Corona?' starts out with:
Three types of treatments are being explored for coronavirus. All have shown promise, but this virus is also proving hard to outsmart:
- The century-old ‘bag of blood’ approach relying on altruistic people like Damian
- Drugs already being used to treat other diseases, which might also work on COVID-19, and
- The much-hyped, but not thoroughly tested, new anti-viral.

Nothing about stem cells despite being an in-depth, clearly researched article. To some extent I think there's a distrust, particularly in Australia, of companies compared to medical research institutes.
It will be very interesting to see how Australia's media responds when Mesoblast's COVID trial results hit headlines around the world.
