It's not a surprise to me, I am a millennial Christian, this was coming though, 15, maybe even not much over 10 years ago, most people in my generation would have showed up as Christian in the census due living in a home with Christian parents, but may have drifted away from Christianity or "they never truly believed" into Atheism or agnostism in their mid to late teens as I saw in Christian schools while their parents were Christian, and when some moved out on their own they were a separate household and no longer ticked the Christian box.

In the next census I think we will see no religion being the most popular category in Australia.

This is pretty interesting though, if you look at half of Africa Christianity is very popular, and it's growing in popularity in most Middle Eastern and some Asian countries. So the decline is really only happening in the West.
