And we not only have scripture or old text, we have the Jesus Christ Himself as a witness, and we philosophies, reason and also science to explain our faith. Jesus Christ left no records; all we have is what people wrote about him that landed up in the Bible. Perhaps other than a few sentences outside the Bible. The rest of the books written about him is based on opinion gleaned from what they read in the Bible.
