Great question and my answer will remove all confusion you have.
Firstly the, belief we are talking about here is belief in G.d and as G.d is another order of reality altogether and no empirical evidence for G.d exists, or can exist within physical reality itself, then all belief in G.d is imagined and every version of G.d imagined is not real.
Now that we have cleared that up let's move on to, Faith. Faith is then the actions, deeds, restraints one places upon the ego so as to appease a G.d we have just imagined into existence. Faith is the necessary active force of belief in G.d. Such a faith is always deeds, moral and virtue based. Faith is the motive actions of belief.
Once again we imagine the actions and boundaries of, Faith according to culture, our religious tribe, our prejudices, our need to conform to be one of the tribe, by handing our logic and common sense over to others to do our thinking for us, the laws of the land and what we can get away with.
A real faith, one imagines would be spiritual, yet secular, or at least embracing of all religious experience. It would be free of judgement, prejudice and see humanity as one family. It would put people before religious belief.
It would not destroy families, or cover-up child molestation, or teach a doctrine of superstition in contradiction to proven science.
In summation, we imagine a G.d into existence and then draw up a set of actions to prove up our belief and this is okay because there are so many other things we do in life that are not real, but they kind of work. Bitcoin, money having value, Kardashians, lucky numbers, economists, the word of politicians, Tele Evangelists, privatisation will make things better, etc, etc.
As humans spend the majority of their lives sleeping and being entertained and dreaming of sex, power and wealth and even G.d sometimes and killing the neighbours dog, that bast..d won't stop barking, it is perfectly fine to have belief and faith.
Just try to imagine the best god you can and then prescribe to a Faith that is kind to others.
