Well without being naive about the whole thing the Journalist really should have a 'duty of care' to report facts and to differentiate between fact, rumour & innuendo imo; however to temper that, the average reader theoretically should [as we famously say here on HC] not necessarily take it as fact and naturally 'do their own research' before acting on the information contained therein.
