I've been watching Painkiller on Netflix - the story of how Purdue Pharma essentially addicted a generation of unsupecting people to what is effectively heroin after 'persuading' the FDA that it was the least harmful opioid due to it's slow release coating.
The FDA (and its one bloke at the FDA in this case that apparently managed the whole process) comes across as simple, bumbling, ego driven and eventually corrupt. The individual that approved their application took a job at Purdue 12 months after the approval.
Perhaps it's perceptions like this the FDA is also fighting in it's ignorance of the ODAC committee, they've been stung by the criticism and as such are being extra careful on approvals.
