An interesting question.
Most people around the world follow soccer, and in particular they follow the English league or the Spanish or German leagues and of course the South American leagues if they can watch it.
If they can't watch it the reason is money. The SBS here, even in their early days, broadcast the German league and then the Italian league, as well as the World Cup every 4 years.
