You are completely wrong to be introducing an anti-vaccine meme. First of all, the incidence of testing in PNG is a gross under estimate of the probable true incidence. Secondly, the spread to isolated regions will take time. Thirdly, the average age in PNG with its rapidly expanding population is low, and we know that younger age groups (with no risk factors ) are at low risk of dying, but there's sufficient people being rendered very ill to require hospitalisation and this is overwhelming the meagre PNG health resources and hence the importance of medical aid and medical missionary work to cope with the current pandemic which shows no sign of abating.
The fact is, that until the COVID pandemic is controlled, PNG will be declared a hotspot (aka no go area) for foreigners including much needed skilled labour and finance appraisals.
Vaccinated people and those who have recovered from a COVID infection are much less likely to infect others, become sick, require hospitalisation or die .... thus reducing morbidity, mortality and over costs to the community and allowing the resumption of normal commerce.
All vaccines serious side effects appear within 2 months. No vaccine lacks some side effects, but these COVID vaccines have been given to billions and the reported serious side effects are rare, and much less than the risks of short and long term consequences of COVID.
THESE COVID VACCINES ARE AMONG THE SAFEST EVER DEVELOPED.
They are the product of years of research, and not an overnight rushed job. The mRNA platform is now being considered for multiple other purposes.
While many are appalled at the first worlds indifference to the 3rd worlds lack of medical resources especially with COVID, you're suggesting PNG be left to its own devices despite the risk of the pandemic grumbling on and on, increasing the potential for a new virulent strain to emerge, and for PNG to remain a pariah state ... seriously. Never let the perfect be the enemy of the good. COVID vaccines are very good but not perfect, and they are the best solution currently available.
