Madrum,
I was thinking along the same lines as you. However, like a fast car its better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.
I am up to my eyeballs in linc shares and would like the ability to offload quickly if I need to. Hence I have opened a trading account with SAXO capital. They were very helpful and easy to setup with. I am still long on linc.
Now at least I have the flexibility to be able to sell in a hurry if I need or want to. I never wanted to trade in international shares but this will be the only one. As they have an office in Singapore their fees are very reasonable. I also spoke to Comsec - relatively expensive so canned that idea.
You are right choose what is right for you. But I think its better to have the ability to sell in a hurry if you ever need to.
Cheers
