I think what Ferguson is saying is that ACRE could end up slinging some token funds as a consolation prize to CWE as it has the mission of microtome-ing the booby prize pot-o-gold. I think this is supposed to make him sleep more soundly at night and get us off his back. ACRE is clearly going to be the department-of-good-works-and-feeling-happy whereas REDP is where hardball was played (never mind that half the funds were arbitrarily seconded to solar schemes with dubious prospects - he _has_ noticed that the sun doesn't shine at night, right?).

My opinion about the REDP decision aside (as it is completely unprintable) the criteria for the scheme were in many ways admirable - the intention was to provide some seriously-sized slugs of money to projects that would prove commercial viability at serious levels - not to provide drinking money to every half-good-energy-idea-that-might-conceivably-work-in-some-specialised-niche. So the A$90M to GDY and the A$60M to PTR are very much in this spirit. Its enough money to get something real done - not just an encouraging slap on the back. Much to my surprise (as expressed here recently) the government have remained true to this approach - good on them.

The true catastrophe of this apalling decision are that CWE have been consigned (in the opinion of the government minions) to the nice-guys-but-losers category.

I try hard not to see conspiracy theories where stupidity provides an adequate explanation but after 24 hours of trying to come to grips with this decision I still cannot see any way of understanding it other than in terms of corruption. I really hope one of the regulars can open my eyes to why OPT provide a genuine alternative because at this point I remain pretty disillusioned.

Between the apparent poor quality of this decision and the fact that plenty of insiders clearly knew the results of the REDP decision more than a week ago I am giving serious thought to getting out of investment completely and redeploying my time and funds fully into day trading - it seems squeaky clean after this sordid episode.
