"Despite the loss, WA still stands to gain indirectly from the Federal Government's $235 million Renewable Energy Demonstration Program, with petroleum giant Woodside having a major stake in the successful wave energy grant recipient - the 19MW Victorian Wave Partners project in Portland.
That project is controlled by US-based Ocean Power Technologies Australasia and uses technology invented by Perth man and OPT chairman George Taylor.
OPT is overseeing similar green energy projects around the world and has ties in WA with Griffin Energy to investigate a wave power plant off Yanchep."
