Yeah you can put in orders to open. You can do good til cancelled orders or have a timeframe on them. With stops I can swap between two kinds of account. One is a guaranteed stop which is a miniumum of 5% from open, but this is guaranteed regardless of over night action, pre-opens etc. You do pay a premium for this service. The other type of account uses a normal stop loss but is not guaranteed. This stop can be as tight or a loose as you choose. I have had a few experiences of large gaps on open (in may), when my stop was hit well below my set stop. But certainly not 5%, so use your discretion with the stops. For example I took out a PMN postion today with a guranteed stop of 5%, this way if the takeover falls over and PMN opens 50c lower I won't be hit to bad. But I tend to use the guaranteed stop less and less these days. Certain stocks they will not let you trade with a guaranteed stop, the daytraders favourites (ie OXR and from memory ZFX). Good luck!
