As to why the price is getting pummelled, you may have noticed there is a major market correction going on, that has been in the works for several weeks.
As to competition, I don't see competition as the biggest challenge... the biggest challenge is raising the profile of the sector. Any publicity generated by competitors, or by related but different products, such as the Bloom box, can only be good for raising awareness of this type of technology.
