The previous Government didn't control the RBA, else the RBA wouldn't have raised interest rates a month out from an election while they were at the helm. I can't remember that ever being done, Governor Lowe broke with a long tradition when he did it. It did considerable damage to the Government at the time (even if it may not have been needed to affect a change in Government).

What the previous Governor did do was to use lies as a tool to stimulate economic activity, and real clangers too.
