So hopefully soon we get some positive news about the shutdown of cougars pilot plant. So what are the chances it WILL be good news.

So lets recap why cougar was shutdown

-. On 16 July 2010, the Kingaroy pilot plant was temporary shut down after traces of benzene and toluene were detected in groundwater monitoring bores.[11][12] However, the level of hydrocarbons in the water was 95% lower than Australian drinking water guidelines.[13] Two readings analysed by the independent testing laboratory also proved to be false and provided incorrect results. Copies of these mistakes were contained in further independent reports provided by Cougar Energy to DERM who subsequently acknowledged and accepted the findings

    - Apparently Cougar didn't inform DERM of the results in a timely enough fashion (which I believe pissed them off and was a major factor in the shutdown).

So apart from the obvious above, what else do we have in favour of a positive out come.

A massive positive I believe is a change in government and Campbell Newman enjoying blaming to ousted gov of their stuff ups. What another great story to stick it up them by saying they got it wrong and have now cost tax payers $34mill +.

So what's Campbell's stance on UCG.

    - This from march 2012. Liberal National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman has not ruled out approving an underground coal gasification (UCG) plant in southern Queensland if the party wins government.

However, Mr Newman says Queensland mining applications need stricter environmental protocols.

The State Government shut down operations at the Cougar Energy site near Kingaroy in the state's South Burnett region in January last year, after tests on neighbouring bores found minute traces of banned chemicals.

Cougar Energy is suing the State Government for $34 million over its decision to close the operation.

A Kingaroy residents' group has raised concerns the LNP may resurrect the UCG plant near the town.

Mr Newman says the LNP will consider all applications.

"I gave a speech to the Queensland Resources Council a few months ago and I said there are things the industry wants in terms of getting approvals through the system," he said.

"I said to them if we become the Government, we are going to deliver that, but have to see the bar going up - we have to have better environmental compliance.

"We have to have stronger more stringent conditions in the future."

Mr Newman says the project's environmental concerns should have been considered beforehand.

"The bottom line is that we will only allow industries like CSG [coal seam gas] or underground coal gasification to go forward in this state with the strictest of environmental conditions and we've already said that to the resources industry," he said.

    - Campbell also wants move revenue in the states pocket and this would definitely help the cause. So reviewing the facts of this case,
I really can't see how cougar can lose this fight unless there is other evidence not published (which would be unheard of with a public listed company)

Onward and upward from here I think - enjoy the ride. . .
