Don't blame the ordinary tasmanians for this. It's the fault of a long line of pathetic, suspect politicians who change the rules to suit their mates. They forced this mill through without proper scrutiny, no matter what the spin doctors say and the public have had enough. It's not just the Greens who oppose it, but the sad thing is that with a bit of common sense and compromise it could have worked but Gunns and the govt wanted to bulldoze it through on their terms like they've always done. Gunns and Forestry Tasmania have run this state like their own private farm. They've bought up several timber operations then closed them down because they wanted it all to themselves. If you talk to any independent timber operators they'll tell you they hate Gunns but a declining number of them still rely on Gunns for work. Paul Lennon and John Gay have made the Gunns name dirt.
It'll be played up as the fault of the Greens but it goes a lot deeper than that and this state will go nowhere till they wake up to themselves and get some politicians with a bit of vision.
I feel sorry for the people of Georgetown, they're doing it tough at the moment and this mill could have helped.
