Change in referral patterns

So my brother just had a GP tell him that "we don't do those anymore" in reference to an MRI referral for his suspected ACL tear in his knee. I suspect this thinking may have contributed to the change in referral patterns that CAJ is experiencing.

Having doctors avoid referring MRIs (which is THE BEST scan for showing ligament tears in knees) for fear of being scrutinised by the government is causing sub par treatment and borderline negligence on their part.

I beg of you GPs and radiologists out there, use your instinct and your years of training and don't listen to anyone that tells you to stop ordering MRIs merely because there is a review pending. If it is the best option, then do it! Soon enough when the MBS review is released, everyone will realise that APPROPRIATE medical imaging is a good thing and an effective tool to be used for treatment, not just an expense.

No regulations have changed, why are you letting external pressure cloud your professional judgement?
