Which is precisely why, for example, the higher aggregated directors' fees were promulgated in the last Meeting:

"..The Board believes that as the Company develops and grows it must be able to attract suitably qualified and experienced persons to the Board and offer non-executive director's remuneration in line with industry accepted standards."

The intention obviously to add depth and 'gravitas' to the Board as the Company evolves.

As to poor Frank Cannavo, the subject of this awful thread, he has acually always struck me as quite a nice bloke, and certainly a genuine enthusiast for, and supporter of all the companies in which he & his family are invested. Given the size of the holdings, I don't think it's unreasonable to see Board representation.

In any case, as others have commented, he is not heavily involved in the day to day running of GTE.
