What neither of the articles identifies is the real market that is a rock in a recession and that is the governement market. If you look at federal government business QAN is still the dominant player. All sorts of bollocks is put up as to why that is the case and why VBA (and REX to an extent) don't win more of their business but it comes down to QAN have out sold them, Qantas Business Travel is everywhere in federal governement and our public service love their Qantas Frequent Flyer miles/Qantas Club perks. Lindsay Tanner looks like he might shine a light on it - he has made a few noises in that regard.
To fix it is simple - the government should accrue the benefit of frequent flyer programs, not individual public servants.
We see real competition in this market and pay less as taxpayers.
