Changing of the GUARD
Macquarie Group is approaching a pivotal moment in its leadership transition as CEO Shemara Wikramanayake nears the end of her seventh year at the helm. Having taken over from Nicholas Moore in 2018, she has steered the firm through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and has refocused its strategy towards private markets and digital infrastructure. Under her leadership, Macquarie exited its U.S. public markets operations and emphasized growth in areas such as data centers, private credit, and green energy storage .macquarie.com+3theaustralian.com.au+3theaustralian.com.au+3The upcoming annual general meeting on July 24 is expected to provide insights into the board's succession strategy. Chairman Glenn Stevens, known for his rigorous governance standards, is anticipated to play a significant role in shaping the transition timeline. Macquarie's tradition leans towards internal promotions, and any executive changes announced at the meeting could signal the direction for leadership into the next decade .aca.org.au+2theaustralian.com.au+2macquarie.com+2Potential internal candidates include Ben Way, head of Macquarie Asset Management, and Michael Silverton, head of investment banking. Both have recently engaged with investors, showcasing their leadership capabilities. Other possible successors are Simon Wright, head of Macquarie Commodities and Markets, and CFO Alex Harvey, who has been instrumental in reshaping the bank's financial strategies .theaustralian.com.auWhile there is no immediate pressure for a leadership change, investors are keenly observing how Macquarie positions itself for long-term growth. The board's approach to succession planning will be closely watched, as it could influence the firm's strategic direction and market confidence in the coming years.theaustralian.com.auMacquarie's CEO Succession
The board maybe changed totally including the top management . There will / should be many questions about the playbook of the bank and their practices to keep making money on the side. will the regulators have teeth to make any of these issue stick and fines and restrictions handed down. Or the boys club happens and smoke and mirrors. What is the bank worth with a broker bank upgrade this morning from 208 to 214 when the price hit 230 old news. What is a realistic price and where is the top. I understand the market drives this but CBA has dropped over $10 from its high 5 days ago. With NAB and WBC being under $40. I know they are different beasts but is CBA and MQG overvalued with the machines manipulating the market and the retail propping up the market at the end and when it is time to sell with a recession and tariffs and wars and a slow China. why did gates and buffet and the other big players sell months ago and go to cash. Why has Michael Burry sold ever thing and bought Estee lauder and written 3 puts on big chinese stocks and has cash left over. Recession / Depression coming to a theatre near new.
