Castillo Copper (CCZ) has received “encouraging” results from re-testing of diamond core from a pair of old holes drilled at The Sisters prospect at its BHA cobalt-zinc project in New South Wales.

Utilising a portable XRF analyser, the company said it delineated some intervals between seven and nine metres wide, with high-grade cobalt-zinc readings.

The core intervals have been sent to a laboratory for follow-up assaying.

Castillo said the data from the PXRF analysis of the two holes was consistent with earlier assayed sections.

Best results were 1.8 metres at 820 parts per million (ppm) cobalt from 124.7m and 1.5m at 320 ppm cobalt from 138.4m.

A primary 1,200m synclinal structure at The Sisters appears to host high-grade cobalt-zinc mineralisation, according to the company, and will be a target for future drilling.

Castillo said further forensic work on codifying drill holes around the Reef Tank and Tors Tank prospects found more evidence of shallow cobalt mineralisation.

CEO Dr Dennis Jensen said the company’s board felt there was adequate geological information for the three prospects to potentially calculate a primary cobalt JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate.

“The preliminary results from analysing The Sisters prospect’s diamond core has delivered Castillo Copper an excellent outcome,” he said.

“We now have compelling evidence, subject to final assays, there is high-grade cobalt-zinc mineralisation apparent and a prime target for future test drilling.”

CCZ shares were trading 8.7 per cent higher at 2.5 cents at 11:09 am AEDT.
