Oh yes, because so many politicians of all persuasions are 'honest'. Our political system encourages lies to win power as the majority of people are so self-indulgent and only interested in what's in it for them. You don't pamper the popular choice, you don't win.
Politics is corrupt, it always has been, it always will be. We vote for the lesser evil.
