Today Goodstart have announced that from 2 July they will cease charging families for 12 hour blocks of care.
The offer will be for shorter 9 or 10 hour sessions. Centres currently charge parents and the government for the length of time they are open per day, normally 12 hours, regardless of the number of hours a child actually attends.
This is the flexibility that Simon Birmingham has been talking about for the past eighteen months and will no doubt increase Goodstart's occupancy levels.
From January 2019, centres will be required to report, to the government the actual daily hours of attendance for every child enrolled in their centres.
G8's occupancy appears to have improved compared to this time last year. However, from the enquiries I have made, I am still not convinced that the figures reported on government websites are correct.
An interesting week ahead in early learning and the court system in Brisbane.
