Gee Benson , I thought you were better than this post suggests. Batteries make up a piddly amount of total nickel usage , probably less than 15%. Metal alloys , mostly stainless steel the vast majority. Indonesia is taking over because of the use of new technologies involving laterite ores. And that has been obviously on the cards for over a decade I am sure lots of the usual people are promoting the '' little yellow men , working in sweat shops , producing sub-standard stuff , making it impossible for fine upstanding Australians to make a crust'' narrative.
Problem is , technology changes have overtaken them. You could pay the mythical ''little yellow men'' twice as much '', and they are still more efficient and cheaper. The critical minerals crap and pouring money into the industry is just political pork barrelling
