Charlie Teo is not the real issue – Effective cancerremoval is the issue – One which only digital technology can solve

Yesterday a medical disciplinary hearing was told that a female patient (Patient A) underwent surgery in 2018 for stage four brain cancer. Patient A died in 2019. The Surgeon was Charlie Teo.

Significantly, Charlie Teo informed the media that ‘the truth lies somewhere between what you've heard and what I'm going to say, I'm sure’.

It would be an understatement to say that the treatment of brain cancer is problematic and antiquated.

On one view, Charlie Teo may be distinguished as a surgeon who is prepared to push the boundaries and perform operations that other practitioners would not attempt. He may be a superior neurosurgeon compared with his peers. But how relevant is this when Australian neurosurgeons are not performing digital biopsies during their operations.

Putting aside the Charlie Teo conundrum, that is for the medical disciplinary board to determine. One thing is for certain – a surgeon cannot efficiently remove a malignant brain tumour without a live digital biopsy.

A live digital biopsy allows the surgeon to identify the cancer margin zone.

Optiscan’s technology is the 2023 solution.
