With depression you can feel worse just as you awake from sleep, someone I observed with a fried suffering from it
the implication being that getting up quickly in the morning and having something to eat and getting some sun was a way to help her get over it(which it did)
this surely implies it actually is a chemical imbalance , one that can be alleviated by either sun(vitamin D) , food, a lift in say the heart rate or a combination of these
all these are essentially "chemical" "therapies"
