There seems to be a bit of confusion over what depression is.
It's not the feeling of loss when your football team loses the grand final, or when you don't get your 'dream job'.
Or when you get knocked back by that hottie down at the pub.
It's the extremely pervasive feeling of doom and gloom, day after day, and it's unrelenting, even if everything else in your life is perfect.
Depression causes people to self destruct, both physically and mentally, and can cause damage to a persons reputation, because those who are withdrawn and with low self esteem can be seen by others as a 'loser'.
Some people are quick to judge others who suffer from mental illness, but those same people lack the insight and understanding to really know what they're talking about IMO.
I've been on both sides of the equation, having worked in mental health, and having suffered from clinical depression for over 40 years.
RIP Charlotte Dawson.
