Meanwhle a lot of people make a lot of money out of prescribing drugs to people suffering Depression and especially the elderly suffering depression. The money that is made from keeping people alive that really don't want to be alive is staggering.

It would be better to treat the reasons for Depression and stop drugging people.
A lot of the reasons are a lack of self esteem usually bought about by a lack of education and a good job, no partner or not having magazine looks, not having a purpose in life. Death of a partner and isolation. ie children abandoning their ageing parents and just waiting for them to die so they get any property or money that is left.
There are lots of reasons but the medical profession mostly wants to drug them because that's where the money is.
Try and get psychological help and most people cant afford it and there is very little in the way of medicare aid for psychological counselling. Most of these professionals have priced themselves out of the reach of the average person.
