@Krano Zip only just became profitable. Between its inception and today, it had surges, drops followed by a resurgence in the SP. Those going on about profitability for OVT are missing the main point (which you addressed) these stocks are traded on hype and future growth.
OVT though is in a unique position in that compared to its SP since IOU days, its currently at rock bottom. The new leadership team will get wins on the board that will naturally drive up the SP. Whether they achieve success in the US is one thing, but at these prices, IMO the chance for upside are considerably higher compared to downside (maybe some downside in the short term). I'm more referring to 6 - 12 months from now.
Once Keast and his team start getting wins on the board, more investors will jump in. OVT will also follow the hype train of any BNPL news. Which, right now is moving towards a favourable environment with US interest rates to drop further.
Harvard Business Review recently did a research on BNPL for the US Market:
"We found that BNPL adoption led to immediate and substantial increases in spending. Consumers who adopted BNPL were more likely to purchase, with purchase likelihood increasing from 17% to 26%. Furthermore, when adopting consumers made purchases, their basket sizes were 10% larger on average than they were before the introduction of BNPL. Remarkably, these increases in spending were not short-lived: They persisted for close to six months, showing that BNPL drives lasting gains rather than short-term spikes in consumer spending."
