In my experience the cost of piping fittings and valves for oil and gas does not vary too much. It is such a competitive and commodified area. The problem is that their are lots of fake suppliers in India and China who may be a few percentage points cheaper. The strategy of most projects is; a) Only deal with previous reputable suppliers and b) be extremely skeptical about certificates and paperwork - do due diligence - trace materials - visit factories - submit samples for analysis. All before anything is shipped to Australia. There are people that do this type of quality control all the time. How do you think other oil and gas projects have been built in Australia without this type of fiasco!
