You know the biggest issue with NML was last CR. When credit was so cheap instead of going to banks or insto to get more money they decided to raise through retail investors and that too with a heavy discount to share price. Since then they were always under pressure. Capital in hand at one point was I guess could have only lasted couple of quarters.
