In my very limited experience watching bots trade EOS, they both but and sell small amounts over a long period. What it does is conceal the net buying and selling and spreads the volume of their entities trade over a long period of time.

Whether it's intentional or not, it tends to confuse the market and disguise the accumulation (or selling) so as not to signal the market. For example, if someone bought 5% of SAS ( or any stock) in a day the traders would be all over it, but when it gets spread across a long period of weeks or months, including both buying and selling, it is virtually impossible to decipher the traders interest and intentions.
